The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society Hamilton / Belleville

The Branch was formed in December 1954 by a dedicated group of dancers, many of them Scottish immigrants, under the tutelage of their first instructor, Miss Jean Matheson.

Membership peaked in the 1970s at well over 300 and the Branch currently has approximately 100 members. For many years there have been classes catering to all levels of dancing ability, both for children and adults, taught by excellent Branch teachers and occasionally guest teachers. Our teaching staff is very experienced and they are often invited to instruct at other dancing groups throughout North America and overseas.

Hamilton has the distinction of being the first RSCDS Branch in Canada and has been at the forefront of Scottish dancing development in Canada ever since its inauguration. Branch teachers have been, and continue to be, dedicated members and officials of the Teachers' Association of Canada.
